Video Doodling and Free Accounts

So, I've been playing with this new technology a little bit and I have also attempted to get a free account with VoiceThread.  I was able to become a registered user easily which allows access to see examples of this technology as well as some tutorials.  Thus far I've run into a snag to get a free account as an educator.  The window for application will not function giving me the notice that I must be signed in... which I was... so, I'll wait a day to see if my new registration must pass through some digital hoops before allowing full access.

I have been experimenting with a feature called video doodling which allows the user to make marks on the video as you provide commentary.  My video doodling should be the last entry on the embedded sample.   This is fun and applicable for online instruction.  Check out the example below.  My 'doodle' should be the last comment on the page.

Video Doodling looks like it could be a very usefull tool in education. Do you think older audiences would be as captive with this though?

I envision younger students being thrilled to see this, and see their work being animated and commented on. With older students though, I think it would take a little bit more technology to really excite them and get them to participate.

Either way, it's pretty freaking cool. Technology is crazy these days!

Hi Mark,
The example is very appealing to elementary, but I think if the subject matter of the video/document was age appropriate then it should work with any age. I'm pretty exited about it. Examples may include dissection diagrams or chemistry illustrations. Being an elementary teacher the content is not immediately in my grasp.
Thanks for the comments.

Jon-
This helped to clarify Video Doodling. I would imagine this could be used in any instructional setting.
In past experience I can think of an autistic student that learned best by the use of video, television, and computer lessons. It captivated his attention and I am sure this would be an excellent tool for his teachers to use to when designing lessons. I am going to send it to them right now!
Thanks for the video.

Jon,
I would like you to know that through your blog I have learned a lot about video doodling and voice threads. Thanks to you, I am going to be implementing voice threads into one of my class projects. I'll keep you posted as to whether or not I can make it work. Thanks again for the info.
